Raymond Recreation is offering an 12-week session of SHIM GUM DO SWORD for adults or anyone over the age of 16 years. Shim Gum Do Sword will be held from 6 – 7 pm on Tuesday evenings from April 15 to June 10. No class on 4/29.
What is Shim Gum Do Sword? Shim Gum Do Sword is a Korean sword style. You train with a wooden sword called a boken, and the focus is practicing forms. A beginning student will learn 8 basic sword techniques, 3 sword forms, and 1 sword fighting form. You will learn skill in the use of a sword as well as mental and physical fitness. Kevin Daly will be teaching this class. He has a teaching certification from the American Buddhist Shim Gum D Association and has been an instructor for 30 years.
This program will be at the Lamprey River Elementary School Gym on Tuesday evenings. There will be a few sword/bokens you can try but then you can purchase your own through Kevin. Pre-registration is required.
